But the Books of Blood stories are full of cool little bits of the supernatural just waiting to be plucked for use in an Unknown Armies or Sorcerer game. I prefer his fantastigoric horror (Imagica or Weaveworld as golden examples). I have not read Abarat- though it looks quite cool. Of course, you can always say "To hell with the WoD metaplot" and just use the rules to merrily go about your mutilating fun. Nightbreed, or the short story Cabal, seems REAL hard to fit in, considering that we already KNOW what all the monsters are up to in the WoD, and it isn't building a city underneath some graveyard in Canada. After all, the one who comes for Kirsten in the hospital when she opens the box realizes that Kirsten had no idea what she was doing, and seems genuinely sorry that she has to "tear her soul apart." But that's just my take on things. I like the fact that the novella Cenobites are ambiguous enough (and, oddly, nice enough) that they could conceivably even be benign (as long as you're not dumb enough to open the box). Personally, I always though Barker and the other movie people did the Cenobites a great disservice by claiming they are some form of demon from Hell.

The Cenobites in the novella are mysterious enough (and morally neutral enough) that any explanation of them probably works (by the second movie, on the other hand, they've acquired too much of a backstory to make it work, IMO). I think if you stick to the novella The Hellbound Heart, however, you may be able to pull it off. Trying to shoehorn the Hellraiser movies into the WoD might be difficult, yeah.
